While we’re looking after our own health, we also want to take care of the planet’s health. The BWG Leisure Centre is designed to minimize environmental impact, and will qualify for Silver certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) Green Building Rating system. Energy-efficient lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems are among the features that will help the building qualify under LEED. Most energy-efficient features are expected to pay for themselves within three years.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
LEED is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. It provides building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance.
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

The assessment method was developed and is run by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), a national, non-profit organization based in Ottawa, Ontario.
The BWG Leisure Centre project is registered under the Green Building Rating System for New Construction (LEED-NC) version 1.0, and we expect the building will be LEED Certified - Silver.
